Our statement on campus protests in solidarity with Palestine
Michigan Student Power Alliance stands with the students who lead Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions movement work at Michigan colleges and universities. We admire their refusal to allow our awareness of the multimodal genocide in Gaza to fade, even in the face of university administrations' retaliatory attempts to limit the freedom of students to demonstrate discontent on their campuses.
We support students' determination to place pressure on their Board of Trustees to change the financial workings and withholdings of their colleges and universities. We encourage all students, both those participating in and those abstaining from taking part in continuing campus demonstrations, to maintain a critical curiosity of how their institutions behave as movers of capital beyond so-called commitments to education.
Our organization supports student demands for Michigan colleges and universities to divest from all financial ties to companies that operate in Israel and bolster the military-industrial complex. We recognize that university divestment is a lengthy process that requires all involved parties, including students, to remain accountable to the goals of these demands over the course of many months or years.
Michigan Student Power Alliance is committed to being a network of student organizers working to build collective power and enact radical change across campuses. We are here to share informational and practical resources that we have to support this work.
